Permit Pushers was founded in 1994, when the internet was just a spring chicken, and Ace of Base was topping the Billboard charts, Playstation had just been released, and Reality Bites was the cultural touchstone. Kathy, our founder, had worked at Yavapai County as a Permit Tech and grew tired of seeing people turned away for not having the right information when they came to the counter. She decided to use her expertise to start a business, helping people get through the process more quickly and painlessly.

James (that’s me!) was just 6 years old when Kathy started Permit Pushers, and her husband, Mike, started his own planning and design business, Casa Verde Consulting. They worked together over the years to join forces, creating a one-stop shop for those needing planning and permitting services in the Verde Valley. James grew up steeped in this world, with parcel numbers and design jargon floating in the air.

In college, James didn’t really know what direction he wanted to take, and tried business school, global studies, and eventually, realized he wanted to go into the family business in some way or another, landing on urban planning as his course of study.

After ten years working as a planner for various jurisdictions, he decided he’d had enough of the public sector, and decided to join Kathy in her business, helping with building permits. By then, Kathy had about 25 years under her belt, and James stepped in to assist with the current client base, while also finding new clients in the Prescott, Chino Valley, and Prescott Valley area who needed building, septic, and solar permits.

Since then, the company has grown to offer building permit services all over the United States, including Ohio, California, the Phoenix metro, Tucson, the Prescott Quad-Cities area, and of course the Verde Valley, where it all began.

The team has grown, and so has our list of services, and our reach. We continue to partner with local and nationwide businesses, as well as staying true to our roots, serving the little guy on his (or her) permit needs!
